Joe Morgan

Hall of Fame Baseball Legend

Joe Morgan was the heart and soul of the Big Red Machine. Morgan was that rarest of combinations: a five-time Gold Glove second baseman who could hit for average and power, and one of the premier base stealers of his era. He was also the field leader of the Cincinnati Reds, with such deep baseball knowledge that, unlike most batters, he was given no signals from the bench and decided himself what to do on each pitch. During his career, Morgan played for eight divisional champs, five pennant winners, and two World Series champions. In 1990, he was the first second baseman to be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame since Jackie Robinson entered in 1962. Currently he is a prize-winning commentator for ESPN's baseball broadcasts. (Saturday morning)
